Sunday Becky and I were walking the dogs down Pleasant Drive when we both were drawn to look into the sky and saw an Eagle circling above. This in itself was unusual as we tend to be focused on the dogs and the ground in front of us as we walk. As we watched in wonder the eagle eventually came lower and lower to the ground and went out of sight only to emerge a few moments later with his catch. He then flew out of view. We both felt honored to witness this.
The next day, I headed to town to run some errands, including a stop at the bank. When I got out of my car, I heard a loud bird vocalization. At first it sounded like it could be a seagull (which would be pretty odd in central Wisconsin). The sound was loud and felt close so I looked at the building, the bank sign next to the road and then I looked up into the sky. There above me was an eagle riding the thermals. I have never before heard an eagle calling like that (well honestly, it’s not like I see eagles everyday). I was mesmerized and watched as the eagle climbed higher and higher into the sky until I could no longer see him but could still hear the faint call.
Not really wanting to open my energy and go into oneness in the bank parking lot, I waited until I was in the quiet of my own home to listen to the message from eagle. I also read all three of my animal medicine books on eagle (again) to remind myself of what eagle medicine brings. There was a message for me.
The eagle showing up two days in a row and then literally “calling” me is what I consider spiritual guidance. Every day we are given an opportunity to notice and be aware of the signs sent to us. When you begin to recognize this guidance you will experience more ease in your life.
A few years ago I was interested in visiting John of God in Brazil after a presentation by a man that guided groups of people there. After the talk I wanted to check out airline prices but could not remember the name of the airport we were to fly into. I remember saying out loud, “I need the name of that airport”. Less than an hour later, I turned on the TV news to learn about a weather front that was moving in (I almost never watch the news and I recommend you avoid it too). As soon as the sound came on the news anchor said “Yesterday, in Brazilla…” and that was the name of the airport. I said “thank you”.
These signs have been showing up for me for as long as I can remember. Sometimes they aren’t so much signs as they are opportunities like this one.
I had been experiencing a severe sciatica-like pain that traveled down my leg. After seeing my chiropractor, massage therapists, physical therapists and a doctor, there was no answer. It wasn’t structural. One night the pain was so intense I cried for an hour. I asked God/Spirit to please help me. What did I need to do? What did I need to know?
The next day a friend called. She and another friend were going to be in the area and wondered if I wanted to get together with them. Still in pain I was hesitant but these were people who always made me laugh and I needed to laugh. Once they arrived and I explained my pain, one friend, that I hadn’t seen in a long time shared with me about a Brazilian healer that was that day (and for a couple more days) at a center about 40 miles north. My friend, currently a student at this center, arranged for me to see this healer (which in itself was pretty amazing). I won’t tell the whole story here (it’s an amazing story) but suffice it to say it was the most profound healing I ever experienced and affected my entire life.
So how do you go about getting this kind of guidance in your life? Here are six things I have learned are essential to setting this in motion.
- Be open. Have a willingness to accept the synchronicity that weaves through your life.
- Ask. Ask for what you need…ask for clarification, direction, what you most need to know about a situation. You must ask.
- Expect it. Have faith that your life is being spiritually guided at all times by a power greater than you (your human self) with your best interest in mind.
- Be observant. Keep your self in the present moment and watch for your sign.
- Act. When you act on the guidance you receive more guidance and opportunity will come your way.
- Acknowledge and be grateful. Don’t consider it a coincidence when your sign appears and say thanks.
If you ask for guidance it will show up. It might be in the form of a wild animal that gets your attention, it might be from a friend that provides just the right insight or it could be as blatant as something written on a sign by the roadside. (That would be your “sign”).
I know many of you have experienced these signs and opportunities as well. Please share them here to encourage others with less experience to keep asking, watching, and listening.

Wow, great article. Makes me wonder what the coyotes were telling me last night on my evening walk!

Well you can get quiet and listen…or look up Coyote medicine and see what resonates with you. It makes life so much more fun when we acknowledge all this great guidance.

Your series of events so brings this home to me. It really is simply about asking, then paying attention, isn’t it? Glad you’re feeling better!
Wendy Wolfe says
Yes, it is simple. The sciatica-like pain thing was over 12 years ago ;-).
Cindy Kirchhoff says
Ah, got it! Glad it was that long ago, then! 🙂 And appreciative that you share to help me remember that the answers/solutions are right there, if I only stay open and observant.

Wendy, I love your posts!
Bless your Eagle Medicine, and your past healing of the deepest import.
I, too, have been a grateful receiver of so many signs in my life, and healings, and today I experienced a beautiful synchronicity I’d be honored to share with you and your readers.
My partner Ben and I moved into this refurbished home less than a week ago, and from the first day, looking at the beautiful farm and mountain view, I said that I need new glasses. Yesterday, I had the thought that I hope this farm stays while we’re here and longer, that the view is too amazing to be turned into something else.
Though I was up in the middle of the night, and feeling kind of tired, I felt called to visit the optical desk at my opthomologist’s office this morning. My name was called before I could open the book I brought.
Debbie pointed me to a wonderful deal of $99 glasses, and she went to get my chart. Another woman came up to me to tell me I might like to look at the Designer glasses across the space.
Debbie returned, and I mentioned the difference in what she and the other woman pointed out to me. She said she wasn’t sure why she showed me the lower priced ones, other than that they look similar to what I came in with, and I only wear them in the house.
I said it’s because I plan to buy a pricey vaccuum for our new house, one I know will do the job well.
She asked me how long I’ve been here, and we had a chat about her living here her whole life. When she got to my phone and address in the computer, she needed my new address, and when I said it, she said, “You live very close to me.”
Wendy and Readers…OMG
Debbie and her husband OWN the beautiful farm I look upon, which sent me to get new glasses, which brought me to meet her!!!!!
She said she hopes their rooster doesn’t bother me, and that he sounds all day. I told her how much we LOVE hearing her rooster!! I asked if the cows will be returning, and she assured me they will.
I’m still in awe of this happening this morning, and thankful!!

Joy that is so perfect, thanks for sharing. It always makes me smile when I see the sychronicity. May you have many years enjoying the view!

You’re welcome, Wendy! Isn’t synchronicity beautiful? Thank you!!

During my vacation last weekend I was camped in an area that was FULL of Daddy Long Legs, among other spiders. They covered the tent and were everywhere at night. Upon returning to work on Tue., I walked in to find a female Black Widow spider in a tall glass. A co-worked had found it in a box from the cooler while stocking over the weekend. Several other spiders have shown up in various places the past few days as well. Guess it’s time to consult my animal medicine books as well. 🙂
Funny thing, too, I’ve been experiencing sciatic pain for the past two days. I’m hoping my chiropractic visit next week takes care of that.
As always, Wendy, thanks for your post. 🙂
